The Ether Diva is heading to the "Blue New Century."
What will the Diva say about her first single in a year, "Glide"? It's been three months since that Shibuya Quatre Live. The aftermath of the incident has hit Lily hard these past few months. The media has written a variety of articles focusing on the incomprehensible existence of Lily rather than the incident itself. Perhaps due to her mysterious way of speaking, some media have criticized Lily as being like a cult leader. Whether she was deliberately targeting this series of commotions or not, the Ether Diva is releasing a new single, "Glide." Lily talks about this new song as a new frontier for herself. What is her new vision? What will the Diva say?
"Ether is entering the blue dimension. This may be an important transitional period for me,"
Lily says of her own feelings. We are always at the mercy of this unique Lily language. For readers who are not familiar with the term, ether is a substance that fills the world. It was once a concept believed in physics, but Lily uses it as a word closer to the spiritual world.
"Blue ether means eternity and silence. I tried flying a white glider there. That's 'Glide'."
"Glide" was a simple arrangement for a piano solo that was also included in the album "Breathing" released last year. However, for this single, Lily was conscious of it being a completely different song.
"Last year, it was ether of 'despair.' But this time, I was able to sing it while feeling 'hope.'"
The word "hope" is a positive image that is unusual for Lily, as we move towards the new century. However, in Lily's language, "hope" has a nuance that can never be called positive.
"Despair is red ether. Hope is blue ether. The color of the earth. A teardrop floating alone in the dark universe. That's the earth."
It's certainly sad when you put it that way. For some reason, this pessimism seems to fit young people today. Its impact is immeasurable. Last year, a series of unfortunate incidents occurred around Lily. A fan's suicide, a staff member's assault and disorder, and a murder at Shibuya Quatre. An unpleasant image was floating around her. Lily seems to have sublimated these incidents, which would have directly damaged her image, into a very unique promotion with a special word, Ether. When I mentioned it, even Lily's face clouded over for a moment. However, the words that came out of her mouth were the same as always, and were firmly different from our morals.
"Isn't being alive a sad event in the first place? The greatest emotional wound for humans is existence."
In this way, Lily transformed the suicide of a fan in protest and the murder at Shibuya Quatre into her own jewel. Her uniqueness lies in this thought process rather than her music. However, for fans, the magic of Ether seems to be very comfortable. In her new work "Glide," Lily repeats "I wanna be." I want to be a sound. I want to be the sky. I want to go far away. ... I'm worried that another young person will be influenced and go far away.
"The speed of images that run through the ether exceeds even the speed of light. Where we go depends on the mood of the ether. Some people wonder why they were born. There is no reason. There is a song. There is no reason. There is just a song. In the swell of the ether. That's why I have no choice but to sing. I'm only happy while I'm singing. No, there is no such thing as happiness. The ether just fills this world."
This is her answer. Perhaps the truth of the universe is hidden in that string of meaningless words. Or maybe there is no meaning at all. It is up to each and every Lily believer to decipher it. One magazine described Lily Chou-Chou as more dangerous than an average cult. It is because her songs and words contain only chaos and despair. Where exactly is this glider flying through the blue ether trying to take its fans?
